My New Best Friend

Apologies for the omission of an introduction!

Please do meet my now "not so new" helper,

the Lap App.

It was a "whim" purchase last spring. One of those "I'VE GOT TO HAVE IT" acquisitions that are made without really rationalizing whether or not the item is really suited for you.

Most often I come to regret such impulses and yet continually fail 

to learn from such impulses....

to which I say,

"THANK GOODNESS!!!!"

It is sold here at The Lap App Store under the premise of being a lap table, which it is to be sure.

But....using it atop my work space has proved to be my favorite means 

of hanging out with my new friend.

The added height and the ability to adjust the angle of my work surface 

are benefits I would not have anticipated. The thimble printed cover is removable and underneath is a non slip surface for tracing. An alternate heat resistant cover for ironing is also included.

Handy extras can be found in the three spindles for thread storage, a magnet for keeping needles safe, and my very favorite... a petite pocket for holding scissors.

I do think we will be friends for life!

Housekeeping

 Still working on paring down my fabric stash.

My goal is to have no more than 1 yard of each print.

 

 That way I can still buy new goodies and not feel guilty about the fact that trying to squeeze them in somewhere back at home is near impossible!

 

 I'm also working on being a bit more prompt in putting my new goodies to use.

That little charm pack by Moda  for instance...

I just HAD TO HAVE it!

I thought it would make up the sweetest batch of pincushions someday.

 

Normal me would have stashed it for that someday but the me I'm trying to be ruled the day and actually put hand to task by prepping fabric pair ups and matching pom pom trim. True for almost every pack of charms I have purchased, I was then left with a pile of leftover prints not entirely to my liking.

 

Now once again normal me would have stashed these for maybe, someday, never. But the me I'm trying to be was quick on her toes this afternoon....

  

 Enter a pack of 2 inch Hexie paper pieces, a needle, thread, and Voilà...step #1 in a housekeeping matter of a different sort had been taken!

 

 You see, I'm obsessed with this book and the work of Nicki Trench. What a colorful world she creates and I imagine lives in. I think my home could stand to kick it up a notch in such a direction and am determined to take action....even if it's only one hexie piece at a time.

 

And look...today I made three!!!

 



Made My Mom Do It

Oh how I wish I had a "before" picture to show you!

All of this had been a giant jumbled rat's nest, stashed in a tattered gift bag, and my worst nightmare for over a month now. I'd had the best of intentions to sort through it....eventually. But then, this afternoon, my mom popped in for tea and took matters into her own hands. The results are amazing. THANKS MOM!!!
